Located in the southeast of Zhejiang, Yongjia County is under the jurisdiction of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is known as a "Chinese Longevity Town". As the fourth-largest county in Zhejiang and the largest in Wenzhou, Yongjia is one of the first coastal areas opening to the outside world. As a millennium-old county, it is strong in cultural tourism, and boasts old revolution bases. It has once received the titles of China’s capital of pumps and valves, buttons, zippers and educational toys, and of the "Cradle of Chinese Landscape Poetry." Yongjia has a long history of over 1800 years. In history, Yongjia County was the predecessor of Wenzhou Prefecture, and therefore, it is the root of Wenzhou’s history and culture. Yongjia was originally known as Yongning County in the third year (138) of the Yonghe period under the reign of Emperor Shun in the Han Dynasty (206BC-221), and was renamed Yongjia County in the 9th year of the reign of Kaihuang (589) in the Sui Dynasty (581-618). In May 1949, when the People’ Republic of China was established, Yongjia was renamed Shuangxi County. In September of the same year, Shuangxi County was re-designated as Yongjia County. |
