Founded in 1919, the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (also known as the First Provincial Wenzhou Hospital of Zhejiang, FHWMU FAHWMU) is one of the first four Grade A hospitals approved in 1993 in Zhejiang. It now provides medical and health services to nearly 30 million people living in southern Zhejiang, northern Fujian and eastern Jiangxi provinces. By comprehensive strength, it ranks 59th on the list of China Hospital Science and Technology Influence Ranking, and has 25 disciplines listed among the top 100 disciplines with the greatest technological influence in China. Nationwide, it ranks 24th in the performance evaluation of Grade A public hospitals. Occupying an area of over 530 mu (approximately, 353,510 square meters) with a an overall floorage of 430,000 square meters, FAHWMU now has two branches (sites): the new hospital branch located in Nanbaixiang, Ouhai District, and the old one located on Gongyuan Road, Lucheng District. The second phase of the new branch, the construction of Wenzhou Medical Research and Innovation Center on Life and Health, was completed on May 28, 2023. This center is poised to become a new hub for the regional life and health industry. The hospital has a full range of disciplines and an outstanding comprehensive strength, with general surgery, wound repair and regeneration approved as national key clinical specialty projects. The Hospital holds notable influence in the country across various fields, including the diagnosis and treatment of severely and critically ill patients, cardiovascular intervention, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, neurosurgery, reproductive medicine, respiratory disease diagnosis and treatment, and emergency medicine.
