Founded in 1998, the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University is the first provincial Grade A eye hospital of Zhejiang. In 2009, it adopted the name Zhejiang Eye Hospital, and in 2010, its Hangzhou Branch was established. The Hospital not only plays a pivotal role in clinical treatment, medical education, medical research, and prevention and healthcare, but also holds prestigious positions as the National Clinical Research Center for Eye Diseases, the National Key Laboratory of Optometry & Visual Science, the National Engineering Research Center for Ophthalmology & Optometry, the Key Laboratory of Ophthalmic Medical Devices and Drug Clinical Research and Test certified by the National Medical Products Administration, the National Key Clinical Specialty in Ophthalmology, and the Research Center for Myopia Prevention and Treatment Engineering under the Ministry of Education.

The Hospital has developed a “four-dimensional” hierarchical diagnosis and treatment model, encompassing a general eye clinic, specialized clinics, renowned expert team clinics, and collaborative clinics for complex eye conditions, which effectively addresses the challenges associated with both patient accessibility and the availability of expert consultations. It has also made significant efforts in enhancing the “One-stop” Service Reform, establishing an “Internet+” intelligent cloud hospital, inaugurating the first 5G-powered remote ophthalmic outpatient service in China and setting a national benchmark for the enhancement of medical services through day surgery and management. It achieved the top ranking among ophthalmology hospitals in the performance evaluation of national Grade A public hospitals for both 2020 and 2021, and was listed as the Grade A specialized hospital for four consecutive years. In addition, it was awarded the title of the first “Top Ten Hospitals” in Zhejiang province and and was recognized as an outstanding participant in the construction of the “Medicine Highland”.
