Founded in September 1913, Wenzhou People’s Hospital is one of the first Western medicine hospitals in Zhejiang, and its predecessor is a hospital founded by the Catholic Missionary of Charity. Over its more than one hundred years of development, the Hospital has evolved into a comprehensive provincial Grade A hospital that provides medical treatment, education, scientific research, rehabilitation, preventive care, and health services. The Hospital holds deep historical and cultural significance and possesses substantial strength in medical research. Currently, it has “Three Branches and One Center”, namely Xinhe Branch, Louqiao Branch, Internet Hospital, and Physical Examination Center, with 1500 beds, 37 specialty departments and 14 medical technology departments. The Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics serve as the regional specialty centers in southern Zhejiang. The disciplines of Gynecology and Gastroenterology are key disciplines jointly constructed by Wenzhou and Zhejiang. The discipline groups of Perinatal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Comfort Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine are Wenzhou municipal key discipline groups. Fifteen of its disciplines are appraised as Wenzhou municipal key disciplines. Therefore, the Hospital is one of the first batch of national standardized training bases for resident doctors.

Seizing the development opportunity of the new era, the Hospital has made significant efforts to establish a modern digital urban medical complex that integrates a wide range of disciplines, distinctive specialties, and Internet-based medical services. It has consistently strengthened its expertise in maternal and child specialties, obtained the qualification for human assisted reproductive technology, thus earning itself the name Wenzhou Women and Children’s Hospital. Furthermore, the Hospital has become deeply involved in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region and has become the Third Affiliated Hospital of Shanghai University. In addition, the Hospital has also taken on the responsibility of supervising internship and teaching programs for over 20 esteemed medical colleges and universities, including Wenzhou Medical University and Hangzhou Normal University Medical College.
