Wenzhou Port achieved a robust start to the year with impressive first-quarter results. According to Wenzhou Port and Navigation Management Center, the port processed a cargo throughput of 18.53 million tons in the first quarter, marking a year-on-year increase of 1.16%. In addition, it handled 320,400 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers, a year-on-year surge of 14.08%. Such dual growth in both cargo and container volumes sets the stage for a strong growth in the year. Notably, the first quarter also saw the completion of 1,914 TEUs in sea-rail intermodal transport, a 74% increase compared to the same period last year, signaling a rapid expansion. Of particular note is that channels have been broadened for smooth goods flow in all directions. Leveraging the integrated reform and development of Zhejiang seaports, Wenzhou Port has maximized its advantages as a gateway to the world. It has enhanced its service capabilities and core competitiveness, injecting new vitality into the expansion of the “Belt and Road” international logistics corridor. According to the latest data, the port’s coal throughput in the first quarter reached 7.0555 million tons, a 7% increment from last year. Oil and natural gas throughput attained a 15.20% increase, totaling 1.063 million tons, while steel throughput ascended by 11.20%, amounting to 1.3867 million tons. Moreover, Wenzhou’s sea-rail intermodal operations have accelerated remarkably. With a strong push for modal shift initiatives like “from road to rail” and “multimodal transportation”, Wenzhou has set up several container sea-rail routes such as “Yongkang - Wenzhou”, “Nanchang - Wenzhou”, “Shangrao - Wenzhou”, “Lishui - Wenzhou”, and “Jinyun - Wenzhou”. This transformation from a single line to an extensive network has enabled inland export goods from the surrounding regions of near-ocean routes to converge in Wenzhou, hence strengthening the influence of the sea-rail intermodal transport. Meanwhile, the city has been elevating its service standards. Initiatives like direct cargo transfers between ship-to-ship, ship-to-truck, and truck-to-ship have been implemented to ensure the efficiency and quality of port operations, driving the construction of a highly efficient port. Adopting a chain cooperation model that includes “port, shipping, and railway”, Wenzhou has enhanced collaboration among land, port and enterprise. The sea-rail container loading plans have been implemented in advance to ensure the efficiency of sea-rail intermodal transport. In January, the monthly volume of sea-rail intermodal transport reached 1,008 TEUs, a year-on-year growth of 453.8%. |
