On January 13, 2025, the reporter learned from Wenzhou Mass Transit Railway Investment Group that the total passenger traffic of Wenzhou Rail Transit Line S1 and S2 in 2024 has exceeded 32 million. Especially, Line S2, which was put into use in August 2023, had a significant driving effect on the overall passenger flow. In 2024, the total passenger traffic of rail transit increased by 48.6% compared with 2023. More and more citizens are experiencing convenient and fast travel through rail transit.

Line S1, a key east-west transit route, underpins Wenzhou’s urban growth and industrial advancement, connecting major transportation hubs such as Wenzhou South Railway Station and Longwan International Airport. Meanwhile, the Line S2, a north-south route, links Rui’an City, Wenzhou Bay New Area, Marine Economic Development Zone, and Yueqing City urban area. The two lines intersect at the Longwan International Airport Station and Lingkun Station, extending travel convenience to rural areas and benefiting more citizens.

Moreover, Wenzhou Rail Transit also serves as a “development line”, which greatly benefits a cross-border e-commerce enterprise in Liushi, Yueqing. The person in charge told the reporter that since air transport is one of his company’s main freight channels, goods had to be pulled to the airport by trucks for shipment every day before Line S2 launched. In order to save logistics costs, goods often accumulated to a certain amount before shipping, which slowed down their delivery. But now goods can be taken to the airport daily by a designated employee, so that the goods can be shipped promptly, which also brings more orders to the company.

Thanks to its speed and convenience, Wenzhou Rail Transit is increasingly integrated into people’s daily life. Since last year, it has been focusing on improving transportation organization, management, and passenger flow coordination. For example, operating hours were extended and intervals adjusted during large events and holidays. As a result, over 800 additional train schedules were added throughout the year. And holidays saw over 3.7 million passengers, while concerts attracted nearly 100,000.

“Currently, the average daily passenger volume exceeds 90,000, surpassing national standards,” the relevant person in charge told the reporter. This is attributed to the Wenzhou Mass Railway Transit Investment Group’s “Three-year Action”, which focuses on attracting more passengers. The action aims to enhance network management, operation organization, services, and cost control, achieving steady growth in passenger flow. Services have been upgraded with maternal and child rooms, passenger rest areas, and children’s play areas, along with initiatives like reservations and luggage handling. To reduce commuting costs, monthly, seasonal, and annual tickets, as well as promotions like “one-Fen ride” and “one-Yuan ride”, have been introduced, enhancing the passenger experiences.
