Recently, the Zhejiang Provincial Tourist Attractions Association announced the results of the first batch of provincial-level intangible cultural heritage (ICH) themed tourist attractions. A total of 28 scenic areas were selected, including the Covered Bridges Cultural Park in Taishun county, the Zhailiaoxi Scenic Area in Rui’an city, and the Mingshan Ancient Village Scenic Area in Pingyang county. The selected 3 scenic areas from Wenzhou have deeply integrated ICH elements with tourism experiences, offering visitors unique travel experiences. While enjoying the beautiful scenery, tourists can also immerse themselves in the charm of ICH, participating in the inheritance and innovation of traditional skills. This integration not only enriches the essence of tourism but also opens new pathways for the protecting and passingo on ICH. The Covered Bridges Cultural Park in Taishun county is located in the core area of the Langdong National Tourist Resort, the first national-level tourist resort in southern Zhejiang and eastern Fujian. Within the park, the "Beijian Bridge" and "Xidong Bridge" are hailed as the most beautiful covered bridges in the world. At the end of last year, UNESCO moved the "Traditional Design and Techniques for Building Chinese Wooden Arch Bridges" from the "List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding" to the "Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity." This marks the transition of this craft from being "endangered" to "revitalized," gaining higher international recognition. While building the brand image of covered bridge tourism, the Covered Bridges Cultural Park places great emphasis on the inheritance of ICH. It regularly hosts ICH-themed performances such as puppet shows and bullfighting competitions, and organizes cultural tourism activities like the "Covered Bridge Fair" and the "Langdong Chinese New Year Folk Custom Fair." Here, visitors can not only appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of the covered bridges but also experience a rich historical and cultural atmosphere, as well as upgraded modern tourism offerings. The Zhailiaoxi Scenic Area is renowned for its clear streams, picturesque valleys, emerald pools, flying waterfalls, peculiar cliffs, and serene forests. It comprises attractions such as the Jiuzhu Lake, the Huayan National Forest Park, and the Dongyuan Chinese Wooden Movable Type Printing Exhibition Hall, leveraging the advantages of ICH, such as wooden movable type printing and woodblock printing technique for paper horses(ritual sacrifices). Dongyuan Village has created experiential spaces like the Dongli Reception Hall, Dongli Folk Art Museum, Natural Creation Base, and Herbal Plant Dye Garden. These form a comprehensive ICH industrial chain integrating cultural tourism, study tours, leisure sightseeing, and cultural creative product development and sales. In 2024, Dongyuan Village hosted over 60 study tour activities, welcoming more than 100,000 students and tourists. It also encouraged market entities to develop over 150 types of cultural creative products, including clothing and seals, with annual sales exceeding 20 million yuan. Mingshan Village, a thousand-year-old ancient village in Kunyang town, Pingyang county, boasts two national-level ICH items: Wenzhou Guci and Pingyang Puppet Shows; four provincial-level ICH items: Pingyang Taiping Dian Paper Cutting, Pingyang Nursery Rhymes, Pingyang Maiji (a kind of folk singing and story-telling art), and Pingyang Chuida (folk percussion instruments playing art); as well as five municipal-level ICH items, including Qian Cheng'en Wontons, Wenzhou Egg Painting, Pingyang Lotus, Yellow Dragon Dance, and Pingyang Nanquan (martial art). In recent years, Mingshan Village has established a clear positioning for development like "water town + ICH," integrating traditional music, dance, opera, cuisine, and handicrafts. It has launched featured brands such as the "ICH Night Market," "ICH Street," folk festivals, and youth innovation farms, offering more "ICH+" cultural tourism activities that are popular among residents and tourists alike. |
