It is learned from the Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV and Tourism that two significant cultural heritages—the remainingpage of sutra printed in Northern Song dynasty by clay type housed in the Wenzhou Museum and Wenzhou’s Shuomen ancient port site—have been selected for the seventh-grade volume of "Chinese History" textbook from the People's Education Press(PEP), 2025 edition.

The remainingpage of Amitayurdhyana Sutra printed in 1103 (Northern Song dynasty), as the earliest existing evidence of clay movable type printing in China, holds a pivotal historical position. This precious cultural relic, dating back only a few decades after Bi Sheng invented movable-type printing, provides invaluable material for the study of the origin and development of ancient Chinese printing techniques. Its inclusion in the textbook not only highlights Wenzhou's historical role as an important early center for movable-type printing but also enhances Wenzhou's influence and popularity in the history of Chinese civilization.

Meanwhile, Wenzhou’s Shuomen ancient port site, one of the top ten ports along the Maritime Silk Road, has witnessed the glorious history of Wenzhou as a trade port over the past thousand years. Its archaeological discoveries have filled the gap in the study of urban ports along the Maritime Silk Road in China and hold great significance for the research of ancient Chinese maritime trade. Its inclusion in the textbook highlights Wenzhou’s pivotal role inmaritime commerce in the ancient timeand provides solid academic support and publicity platform for Wenzhou to build its “Millennium-old Trade Port” cultural brand.

The inclusion of these two cultural heritages is not accidental. In recent years, Wenzhou Museum has been rated as a national first-class museum, and Wenzhou’s Shuomen ancient port site has been selected as one of the China’s top 10 new archaeological discoveries. These honors fully demonstrate Wenzhou's rich historical and cultural resources. Their inclusion in the textbook represents a high recognitionofWenzhou's historical and cultural value, reflecting the state's great emphasis on the development of Wenzhou's cultural undertakings.

As an authoritative teaching material for teenagers across the country, textbooks have a far-reaching influence. The inclusion of these cultural heritages will greatly boost Wenzhou's cultural popularity, enabling more people to understandWenzhou. Through the extensive dissemination of this textbook, Wenzhou, as an early practice center for movable-type printing and a pivot on the Maritime Silk Road, will form a unique cultural identity both domestically and internationally. This not only improves Wenzhou’s urban image but also supports its goal of becoming an international historical and cultural city, allowing its cultural treasures to shine even brighter on the world stage.
