Over the past weekend, pet food and supply enterprises in Pingyang Pet Town quickly ramped up efforts to negotiate post-holiday overseas expansion plans with relevant platforms. On the afternoon of February 20, the“Town Hall” hosted brand representatives, factory leaders from the pet food and supplies industry, as well as major trade agents, e-commerce platforms, and service providers. The gathering facilitated in-depth discussions on cross-border expansion strategies, with participation from domestic and international platforms such as eBay, TikTok E-commerce, AliExpress, and Shopee.

“In recent years, while companies in the industry have intensified efforts to expand into the domestic market, gradually increasing the proportion of domestic sales in total revenue, overseas markets remain the primary income source. Global expansion is still the top priority for businesses,” explained a representative from the Pingyang Pet Food and Supplies Industry Association. According to relevant data, nearly 100 pet food and supply enterprises in Pingyang generated over RMB 5 billion in output value in 2024, with overseas revenue exceeding RMB 3.5 billion.

Despite Pingyang’s status as one of the world’s largest pet chew food production bases, bolstered by three national-level titles—“China Pet Product Export Base”“National Export Pet Food Quality and Safety Demonstration Zone” and “National Foreign Trade Transformation and Upgrade Base”—the industry faces challenges such as instability in European and American markets and intensified domestic competition. Post-holiday, local enterprises remain busy consolidating relationships with existing clients while exploring new markets abroad.

The cross-border expansion exchange event was guided by the Wenzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau, supported by the Pingyang County Commerce Bureau, and co-organized by industry associations including the Zhejiang Provincial Import and Export Pet Food and Supplies Association, pet food and supplies industry associations at provincial, city and county levels. Representatives from Shopee SCS provided insights into Southeast Asian market trends, opportunities for pet products, and product selection strategies. The “Pet Industry Global Expansion” platform demonstrated strategies for integrating online and offline traffic in the U.S., overcoming trade barriers, and creating a unified “service, retail, and social” ecosystem, alongside sharing entry tactics for the Brazilian market.

Platforms like AliExpress, eBay Greater China, and TEMU analyzed their respective strengths and support mechanisms. TikTok E-commerce’s U.S. team detailed its “content + marketplace” dual-driven model to help businesses build brand recognition and create viral pet products.

Enterprise leaders, such as those from Jinheng, expressed confidence that collaboration with global platforms would ensure a strong start to the year. Association representatives highlighted that ongoing efforts—such as establishing overseas factories (production“going global”) and partnering with major platforms to explore new markets (product“going global”)—will likely drive continued growth in overseas revenue for 2025.
