Interchange ramps At 9 a.m. on April 11, the Aojiang West Interchange and its connecting roads on the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Expressway (G15 Shenyang-Haikou Expressway) opened to traffic. This project serves as a vital link in the high-speed road network of “Wenzhou’s southern metropolitan sub-center”, contributing significantly to the realization of “a one-hour commuting circle to the core of the Wenzhou metropolitan area”. On the day of the opening, a reporter started from the Aojiang West Interchange and reached the Pingyang Interchange in just about five minutes. “Previously, residents of Aojiang Town had to drive for about half an hour to access the G15 Shenyang-Haikou Expressway via the Pingyang Interchange. Now, thanks to the Aojiang West Interchange, the time to reach the Wenzhou South Toll Station is reduced by at least 20 minutes,” said a relevant official from the Pingyang County Transportation Construction Center. Located on the southern side of Tangzhong Stream in Tangchuan Street, Aojiang Town, the interchange lies approximately 7.7 kilometers from the Pingyang Interchange and 7.2 kilometers from the Xiaojiang Interchange. With a total investment of 760 million yuan, the project consists of one interchange, one connecting road, and one toll station. It adopts an A-type single-trumpet interchange design with ramps passing beneath the mainline. The widened mainline section extends 1.06 kilometers, alongside a 2.46-kilometer east-west connecting road, which begins at the toll station, passes under the Wenzhou-Fuzhou Railway, intersects National Highway G104 at grade, and ends at Yuanlin Road in Aojiang Town. The road features a 24.5-meter-wide subgrade and is constructed to a first grade highway standard with two-way four lanes and a design speed of 60 km/h (40 km/h in the railway section). According to the Pingyang Transportation Bureau, the Aojiang West Interchange and its connecting road—designated as a key provincial project—were jointly implemented by the Pingyang County Transportation Construction Center and the Pingyang County Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd.. Construction officially began in December 2021 and was divided into three construction sections, including one for railway-related infrastructure. The project passed the final completion inspection on January 18, 2025. Following its opening, the Aojiang West Interchange and its connecting road are expected to divert approximately 10,000 vehicles per day. This will significantly ease the traffic pressure on the Pingyang and Xiaojiang interchanges of the G15 Shenyang-Haikou Expressway, as well as the Pingyang section of National Highway G104, making it more convenient for Aojiang Town residents to access the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Expressway. As a major thoroughfare in the western part of Aojiang Town, the connecting road will enhance the area’s overall transportation network. In the future, once the Aojiang Second Bridge—an overpass linking Longgang and Aojiang—is completed, the connecting road will be extended to connect with the new bridge, providing residents of Longgang City easier access to the G15 Shenyang-Haikou Expressway. Additionally, it is reported that Wenzhou’s comprehensive transportation investment exceeded 11.5 billion yuan in the first quarter of this year. A number of major infrastructure projects—including the Rui’an-Cangnan Expressway, the Wuniu Interchange of the Wenzhou Ring Expressway, and the Liushi Interchange of the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Expressway, are expected to be completed later this year. |
